This fast-paced, multi-award-winning 1971 police drama stars Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider as New York City narcotics detectives on the trail of a source of heroin from Europe. Fernando Rey is a French drug kingpin and Marcel Bozzuffi is his right-hand man and a hired killer. Thanks to the French connection, $32 million worth of heroin is about to be smuggled into New York, so it's up to the cops to intervene - and fast. Screen thrillers include a high-speed car chase after an elevated train and dozens of action sequences. The film was inspired by a true story, and the protagonists' real-life counterparts, Eddie Egan and Sonny Grosso, have bit roles in the film. Its five Academy Awards include Best Picture, Best Director for William Friedkin and Best Actor for Hackman. "The French Connection (Collector's Edition)" includes exclusive interviews with Hackman, Scheider and Freidkin, a documentary on the making of the movie and more.
