Among the great treasures of the American theatre are the works of Tennessee Williams. His first Broadway success was the 1944 smash "The Glass Menagerie." Some playwrights might retire after that, but Williams went on to write such masterpieces as "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "Streetcar Named Desire." In this television adaption of his first success, Katherine Hepburn gives an amazing performance as Amanda Wingfield, the domineering mother of club-footed Laura (Joanna Miles) and idealistic Tom (Sam Waterson). Their enclosed world is forever torn apart with the arrival of the Gentlemen Caller (Michael Moriarty). The production features superb performances all around.
