"Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me," Dustin Hoffman suggests to Anne Bancroft in "The Graduate" (1967), a generation-defining comedy that seduced a nation. In his second film appearance, Hoffman became a movie star as an uncertain college graduate who has an affair with one of his parents' friends, only to fall in love with her daughter, Katharine Ross. Mike Nichols directed Buck Henry's witty, endlessly quotable screenplay, while Simon & Garfunkel contributed such hit songs as "The Sounds of Silence" and "Mrs. Robinson."
