The House Across The Street / Homicide (Double Feature) DVD
The reporter-turned-sleuth takes the lead in The House Across the Street. When managing editor Dave Joslin (Wayne Morris) writes several articles blasting the police with incompetence after a witness in a fraud trial is killed, the paperís owner, who is worried about a libel suit, reassigns the editor to an advice-to-the-lovelorn columnist. This causes Joslin to become inadvertently involved in the fraud case against racketeer Keever (Bruce Bennett). With fellow reporter Kit Williams (Janis Paige) as his accomplice, Joslin starts putting together the puzzle pieces to get the criminal indicted.

Comments about this product:
Comments pertain to only Homicide. Haven't seen the other. I was surprised how good this film was. Robert Douglas was very convincing as a dogged detective, not at all like a strong tough guy common in such films. But the fight scene with Robert Alda in the desert was very convincing. Maybe not in the top 20 crime films but worth watching. I like that he was unfamiliar to me as a leading man and that they left the romance angle unresolved. Well directed.
