When the hapless Georgi (Danny Kaye) wanders into an uptight town, he is mistaken as the Inspector General, which means he'll get to decide the fate of the corrupt Mayor and his council. All Georgi really wants to do is go about his business. Instead, he's now "target number one" as the Mayor and his cronies try to take him out. Luckily, local citizens Barbara Bates and Alan Hale are standing by to help the "Inspector." This is one of Danny Kaye's most celebrated roles and is a beloved cinematic treasure.
