Claude Rains stars as a mad scientist who stumbles upon a mysterious potion, in "The Invisible Man" (1933). Adapted from H.G. Well's classic tale, Jack Griffin, played by Rains, diligently works on a formula for disguising his body from the human eye. With the success of his experiment, Griffin returns to his old lab to present his findings to his mentor, played by Henry Travers, and ex-fiancee, played by Gloria Stewart. He insists his potion will render him far superior to all other humans, and when Griffin innocently begins wreaking havoc upon others, his pranks quickly turn into hideous murder.

    Comments about this product:

"At 71 minutes Running Length, I cannot believe that there must be a Director's cut somewhere buried within the archives of Universal Studios or the James Whale collections." It almost seems that this not to missed Classic Film begins where the Film is already half over! I tend to believe that the Studio Chiefs got ahold of this project and were the final say in the Final Cut. Although, without compromise this is a 5 Star Film with unbelievable even today ground breaking Special Effects, I would have liked to see the storyline take you into the Scientist's past and understand the man better as well as his relationship with Flora (Gloria Stuart) to actually see that he was normal before "experimenting with things that man must leave alone". Its so fast moving... you blink and its over! This should have been released as at least a 120 minutes Feature to be true to "Wells" original storyline. But, never-the-less a great-great film as it is and I expect always will be, there was only one Claude Rains and Director, James Whale.
