Getting dumped is the best thing that ever to Steve Martin in this adaptation of Bruce Jay Friedman's (1984's "Splash") guide to the terminally lonely. After bonding with fellow loser Charles Grodin, the two decide to write through their problems with "The Lonely Guy's Book of Life," which turns them both into national sex symbols. Comic giant Neil Simon ("The Odd Couple," 1984) wrote this laugh riot, co-starring Judith Ivey ("Designing Women") and singer Steve Lawrence, with cameo appearances by Merv Griffin and Dr. Joyce Brothers.
