Description
The Best Picture of 1945 has lost none of its bite or power in this uncompromising look at the devastating effects of alcoholism. Ironically, this brilliant Billy Wilder film was almost never released because of poor reaction by preview audiences unaccustomed to such stark realism from Hollywood, but the film has since gone on to be regarded as one of the all-time great dramas in movie history.

Ray Milland's haunting portrayal of a would-be writer's dissatisfaction with his life leads him on a self-destructive three-day binge. Filled with riveting imagery, the multiple Academy Award-winner offers an unforgettable view of life on the edge.

    Comments about this product:

This movie reveals the inner workings of an alcoholic's devious mind on his way to the next drink, the next binge. I appreciate the realistic drama of his willingness to use anybody or anything to get what he needs.
Definitely an adult movie with an adult theme. Too stark and uncompromising for kids. Too much so for many adults!
This movie details "low bottom drunks" who are near death and in the process of losing everything to alcohol addiction.
Consequently, people in denial over their alcoholism will use this movie to say "I'm not that bad" or "If I ever get that bad I'll do something." This great movie should serve as a warning to anyone playing with the disease of alcoholism.
Alcoholism cannot be controlled without abstinence and jails, institutions or death will be the result of unchecked alcohol use.
