In a town full of singing cowboy stars, Tex Ritter stood out as one of Hollywood's most popular and prolific ten-gallon tunesmiths. "The Pioneers" (1950) is Ritter's 32nd musical Western and a unique adaptation of James Fenimoore Cooper's "The Leatherstocking Tales," placing Tex and sidekick Slim Andrews in the roles of wilderness travel guides out to save a pioneer family from a nefarious land baron. This adventure was Ritter's final solo-starring movie, and features the film debut of country music stars Red Foley and Doye O'Dell.
