"The Sun Also Rises" (1957) is a wonderful adaptation of the Ernest Hemingway novel of the same name from 1926. When an American news correspondent, played by Tyrone Power, is injured in World War I, he moves to Paris after being rendered impotent. He is joined by a band of characters such as a nymphomaniac, played by Ava Gardner, and a drunkard, played by Errol Flynn. This odd collection of people is in search of new thrills to excite them, and romance ensues, despite the odds.

Comments about this product:

Given the age of all the principal actors I feel the screenplay could have been adjusted to accommodate. The essential story and character dynamics could have been set a number of years later, maybe in the 1930s for example. That aside, Tyrone Power Errol Flynn and Ava Gardner retain strong film presence and give wonderful mature performances. Mixed review for this one. Stars are terrific so I give this a high recommendation. But the screenplay by trying to be overly faithful to the original story, and encumbered by rather dull direction, don't do the actors justice. A shame.

      Comments about this product:

Ava is beautiful as always, but the male actors were all too old for this film. Also very boring plot and cinematography!
