Description
Grace Kelly is gloriously, glamorously regal in this retelling of Ferenc Molnar's romantic fable about a shy princess whose head tells her to wed a worldly Crown Prince (Alec Guinness), but whose heart is drawn to a dashing commoner (Louis Jourdan). Garbed in dreamy Helen Rose gowns, surrounded by Mittel-European opulence, the leading lady dances, duels, flirts, falls in love and makes even the most jaded moviegoer want to believe in fairy tales. And just to prove that fairy tales can come true, Kelly became a real-life princess as The Swan went into release, marrying Prince Rainier of Monaco in a magnificent royal wedding that captured the world's imagination.

      Comments about this product:

When "The Swan" was released in the United States, movie-goers weren't very excited - they had just seen star Grace Kelly marry a real prince and become Princess Grace of Monaco. Decades later, it is much more enjoyable, although not quite as rich in story as it is in cast, costumes and sets.

Grace looks every inch a fairy-tale princess (She was not engaged to her real prince until after this film wrapped!),so that adds another layer of interest to the film.

Louis Jourdan as a poor tutor is a handsome rival to Alec Guiness's regal but seemingly clueless prince, and watching Grace's Princess Alexandra decide which man she wants to share her life with is an intersting journey.

Jesse Royce Landis, in her second turn playing Kelly's mother, is her always delightful self and the rest of the cast is excellent.

(One bit of correction - Grace's final Hollywood film was "High Society", filmed in early 1956, so it was technically her "Swan" song)
