Famous for bringing together one of Hollywood's happiest off-screen couples, the romantic comedy "Volunteers" (1985) stars Tom Hanks as a wealthy young snob who escapes trouble at home by joining the Peace Corps, where he irritates a lovely idealist, Rita Wilson (later Mrs. Tom Hanks), as well as a cheerful innocent abroad played by the ever-wonderful John Candy. Hilarious and suspenseful jungle adventures ensue, featuring Tim Thomerson as a cynical American spy. Director Nicholas Meyer, who wrote "The Seven-Per-Cent Solution" (1976) and directed fanboy favorite "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" (1982) captures the upbeat heart of the 1960s era.
