When Col. Lamberth and his daughter Rill reluctantly head to Texas from Chicago, in "West of the Pecos" (1945), they inadvertently watch Brad Sawtelle's gang engage in serious illegal activities. Of course, however, love always finds a way, and romance blossoms in the midst of danger and violence surrounding Lamberth's hacienda in Texas, which was brought on by Sawtelle in retaliation. To save herself, the young Rill disguises herself as a boy. After Lamberth hires Pecos and an Irish-Mexican man to back him up, however, Rill's disguise as a boy is uncovered by Pecos, and a relationship starts up between the two. Rill's stubbornness sometimes clashes with her father's wishes as they struggle to maintain control of their land and surroundings.
