Description
What happens When Ladies Meet? If the ladies are Best Actress Academy Award® winners* Joan Crawford and Greer Garson, expect classic entertainment. Glamorously gowned, exquisitely coiffed, the two screen legends share a heart-to-heart on sex, men, fidelity and wedlock in a sophisticated comedy/drama set among the well-to-do and the done-to. Crawford plays Mary, a novelist whose latest work extols the virtues of extramarital amour. Her inspiration may be personal: she’s having a fling with her married publisher. Then Mary meets and instantly bonds with charming Clare (Garson), who’s married to a publisher. Yes, that publisher. And suddenly a mad passion with another woman’s husband doesn’t seem quite so virtuous.

      Comments about this product:

Read Sonya's review, she did a good job. This is a sophisticated comedy.

Joan Crawford thinks her affair with a married man is wonderful in virtue because he would not be cheating unless his spouse was a dragon. Robert Taylor is in love with Joan Crawford. He meets the publisher's wife, Greer Garson. He arranges for the two ladies to meet in Spring Byington's home. These women form a friendship.

The Herbert Marshall, the cheating husband, shows up in Joan's bedroom. Greer was having a long talk with Joan, she jumps up and leaves the room after a parting remark to her husband.

Both women are waiting for a taxi. Joan found out that Greer is not a dragon, but Herbert is a demon. Greer found out this is the last time her cheating husband will cheat on her!

I guess Joan will change the ending of her book. Cheating is a vice. The scene between the women is worth watching.

              Comments about this product:

Joan Crawford plays Mary Howard, a novelist in love with her publisher who can't seem to finish her latest manuscript about a woman in love with a married man. In a case of art imitating life, Mary much like her literary heroine believes Rogers Woodruf will leave his wife and forge a future together with her. To make things complicated, Mary is relentlessly pursued by handsome Jimmy played by charming Robert Taylor. Although she likes Jimmy, Mary turns down his marriage proposals saying she prefers to remain friends. Instead, Mary arranges a getaway weekend at the home of ditsy friend Bridgi (wonderfully acted by Spring Byington) so she can see Woodruf. The plot thickens when Jimmy accidentally runs into Woodruf's wife (played by Greer Garson) and invites her on an outing where they "get lost" and find themselves at Bridgi's cottage. The story has funny scenarios and risks becoming a farce as Jimmy purposely keeps Claire Woodruf's true identify to himself. Claire is also in the dark about the woman, Jimmy is trying to make jealous. Throw in a thunderstorm and Jimmy's plan that inevitably sends Rogers Woodruf away on a wild goose chase so that the two women can meet, makes this film worth seeing. The anticipation of their meeting builds throughout the movie, and culminates at the cottage. Despite the fact neither woman knows their close connection to each other, makes this a palpable premise. The acting, however is a bit stylized, characteristic of the 1940s but both Crawford and Garson are appealing in their roles. Spring Byington almost steals the show with her funny character portrayal of Bridgi. The dialogue is crisp and Bridgi provides comic relief and helps the story flow. Stranded at the cottage, Mary and Claire strike a friendship and genuinely like each other. "When ladies meet" has powerful scenes and the viewer is in on the secret as it cleverly unfolds to the two women. The dialogue in "When Ladies Meet" is honest and the reveal ultimately helps Mary's writer's block to help her finish her novel. Credited for creating Crawford's iconic signature wardrobe and large shoulder pads, Costumer designer, Adrian Greenberg displays a glamorous Hollywood era gone by.

                Comments about this product:

Joan Crawford & Greer Garson are just captivating in this film, Spring Byington is adorable & Robert Taylor is perfect as the romantic lead. Almost as good as the original with Myrna Loy & Robert Montgomery. Any chance the original will ever be available on DVD?
