Robert Preston stars in "Whispering Smith" (1948), a film filled with inner and outer conflict. Railroad detective Luke "Whispering" Smith, played by Alan Ladd, must choose friendship or duty. While his friend Murray Sinclair, played by Robert Preston, must be stopped from sabotaging trains, their friendship makes him hesitate. At the same time, Smith finds himself drawn to Sinclair's wife, played by the alluring Brenda Marshall. Smith struggles with himself, his morals and what's really right and wrong in the world around him. In the end he must choose either his job or old loyalty.
