Description
Director William A. Wellman's masterpiece is the first film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Featuring a meticulous restoration and a newly recorded soundtrack based on the original score, Wings comes to Blu-ray for the very first time. This timeless story of love and loss follows two men who go to war and the girl they leave behind. Popular Twenties "It" girl Clara Bow stars in this unforgettable World War I epic alongside Richard Arlen, Charles "Buddy" Rogers and the legendary Gary Cooper in a cameo appearance. The aerial battle sequences still rank among the best in motion picture history.

    Comments about this product:

This is an absolutely first-rate restoration of one of the last great silent films. Much is made of the astonishing air stunts, but the battles on the ground are equally effective, as pulse-pounding as anything made in the 21st century, maybe more so, given the actuality of what you see. They look dangerous because they were. Mention must be made of the newly recorded original score and Ben Burtt's superbly crafted audio recreations: actual period motors revving up, explosions, whistling bombs, etc., all seemingly - and discreetly - in keeping with the director's original intentions. (This addition is a matter of some debate, since no original early sound print of this film with added affects exists to date.) Gary Cooper's appearance is incandescent, and the climax with Arlen and Rogers still packs an emotional wallop!

          Comments about this product:

I love, love the film when seen on TCM. So, when I saw it was available, I bought immediately!! Much to my horror, it is in color tones! I saw this on the box as I was ready to open and have not done so. It is in the back of my closet. Shame on adding color to a black/white film!

            Comments about this product:

"Wings" has been magnificently restored! The orchestral score makes viewing the film a completely different experience - like seeing the film for the first time. The print is beautiful. This is what 1927 audiences must have experienced. I hope more silent films receive this treatment when released on DVD.
