Aggie Specks somehow maintains dignity in her ramshackle home in a city dump, and showers her daughter, April, with attention and love. The factory of tycoon Elias Moorehouse overlooks the makeshift huts, and he has pulled political strings to have Aggie,and the other poor homeless souls evicted once and for all. Moorehouse's efforts are terminated when he suffers a stroke and dies.
