From 1974 to 1989, the Los Angeles cable station known as Channel Z was a cinephile's dream. Exhibiting obscure, art-house, and director's-cut features long before those terms meant anything to most of America, programmer and mastermind Jerry Harvey was years ahead of the home video phenomenon. "Channel Z: A Magnificent Obsession" (2004) looks at the influential station and its troubled creator, who tragically killed himself and his wife in 1988. Directed by Xan Cassavetes, this documentary features interviews with famous fans of the channel such as Quentin Tarantino, Robert Altman, Jacqueline Bisset and more.
