Paul Bettany stars in the period drama "After the Rain" (1999), the story of an Afrikaner soldier living during apartheid who returns home from war to find his wife has befriended a black man. Based on Ross Kettle's play, "Soweto's Burning," the film focuses on Bettany's journey to come to terms with his own racist ideas towards his wife's new friend, as well as the ways in which his country's ideals are drastically changing.
