Elia Kazan (who adapted his own novel) directed this compelling character study starring Kirk Douglas as Eddie Anderson, a wealthy L.A. ad man who suffers a nervous breakdown that causes him to re-evaluate his life. Fed up with his job, Anderson goes to New York, where he resumes an old affair with a sexy former co-worker (Faye Dunaway) while his wife (Deborah Kerr) schemes to get her hands on his money.
