Titans of stage and screen Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole face off in this acclaimed film adaptation of Jean Anouilh's play. One of history's greatest power struggles - the defining example of Church vs. State - is played out between lifelong friends King Henry II (O'Toole) and Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury (Burton), as the latter begins to exercise more autonomy in his new position, much to Henry's displeasure. A historical tragedy of epic proportions, the film was nominated for an incredible 12 Academy Awards - including Best Actor nods for both O'Toole and Burton - winning one for Best Adapted Screenplay.
