British drama "Broken Blossoms" (1936) tells the story of Chinese immigrant Chen who loses his idealism after a move to the cruel and gritty working class London of the 19th century. When Chen befriends Lucy, a beautiful Cockney girl abused by the prize-fighting father that doesn't want her, the two form a bond as vulnerable, broken outcasts. Can Chen and Lucy find happiness in a cruel and punishing society, or will Lucy's contemptuous father destroy everything? A remake of the 1919 D.W. Griffith film.
