In "Crossworlds," Josh Charles leads a dull life, turned upside down by Andrea Roth, a beauty commuting between dimensions, alongside Rutger Hauer as an intergalactic bounty hunter. The young man learns his father was of another dimension as well; that there's a war between good and evil forces, and it devolves upon him to step up to his inherent destiny and save the universe. This 1996 thriller beats "Matrix" by four years, though purists would argue that both are preceded into pop culture by Robert Heinlein's short novel "Glory Road." But why quibble? Fun is fun.
