Director Lewis Gilbert delivers a captivating drama, "Damn the Defiant!" (1962), starring Alec Guinness and Dirk Bogarde in the two lead roles in this highly engaging war story set in the 18th century. While Guinness takes on the role of the compassionatecaptain, Bogarde plays the second-in-command who ends up being killed by his men after a long time of abusing and mistreating them. After everything goes down, the captain needs to decide whether he is going to reveal the men behind this murder or keep silent. Based on the book by Frank Tilsley, this is a film of inner conflicts, crises of conscience, courageous deeds and ultimately, right and wrong choices.
