In 2012, as the Arab Spring was giving way to the inception of the Syrian Civil War, Waad al-Kateab (who co-directed) was a business major at Aleppo University. Over the ensuing five years--as she met and married an activist doctor, and gave birth to her daughter Sama--she’d keep a stunning video chronicle of a combat-ravaged city collapsing in chaos, as a means of letting her child one day understand why the family stayed behind, and her efforts make for an unforgettable viewing experience. 95 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English.
