Writer-director Allison Anders takes on women's equality in this heartwarming struggle to reach the top! Illeana Douglas stars as a highly talented singer who wins a recording contract in a contest in the 1950s. To her dismay, she learns that the record company is not currently signing women. So, she takes the advice of a manager, who suggests she change her name and write songs - rather than performing. In doing so, she encounters a whole host of unreliable - but creative - co-writers, who give her a runfor her money in the romance department.
