Young siblings Koichi and Ryunosuke (played by real-life brothers Koki and Ohshirô Maeda) are split up after their parents separate, each child in the custody of one parent. The construction of a high-speed train linking their towns gives Koichi the dreamy hope that his family might be united again one day, so witnessing the first full use of the railway becomes an important project for the boy and his friends.
