The Japanese fairy-tale, Kaguyahime, tells the story of the Moon Princess who wishes to bring peace to the Earth, but only succeeds in provoking conflict. Jir+ Kylin's highly individual choreography is an exquisite mirror of Maki Ishii's sometimes haunting, sometimes violent music, which fuses Western and Eastern sound elements. The Circle Percussion ensemble, conducted by Ishii, plays an integral part in the staging of the ballet. With stunning designs and lighting by Michael Simon, Kylin has created ahighly-charged fusion of dance, music and theatrical images. Performed by the Nederlands Dans Theater, Kaguyahime was recorded in studio and a short introduction to the piece by Maki Ishii is available.
