"Night After Night" (1932), Mae West's film debut, finds her as the sassy gal-pal of George Raft, a nightclub owner who wants to change his streetwise demeanor to help him woo a society girl. In "I'm No Angel" (1933), West is a carnival entertainer who takes a turn as a lion tamer to get her boyfriend and fellow con artist out of a jam. Cary Grant also stars; songs include "I Want You, I Need You" and "They Call Me Sister Honky Tonk." After inheriting an oil field from her husband, newly widowed West has trouble landing a new man, so she takes etiquette lessons in order to crash high society, in "Goin' to Town" (1935); features the tune "He's a Bad, Bad Man, But He's Good Enough for Me." "Go West, Young Man" (1936) finds movie star West heading to a small town to attend the preview of her new film and falling for farmboy Randolph Scott; "I Was Saying to the Moon" and "On a Typical Tropical Night" are among the songs.
