Special effects artist Gareth Edwards makes his directorial debut with the inventive sci-fi thriller "Monsters" (2010) on Blu-ray. Alien creatures hitch a ride on a NASA space probe that crashes south of the border, and the massive monsters take over northern Mexico, destroying towns and terrorizing the population. Scoot McNairy is a photojournalist enlisted by his boss to retrieve his daughter, played by Whitney Able, from southern Mexico and bring her to safety through the infected zone. In the course of a nail-biting race to the border, the duo make some startling discoveries about their new alien neighbors.
