Gary Cooper stars, as Longfellow Deeds, in the fortune comedy "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town" (1936). Living in Vermont as a local business man, Deeds receives a surprise inheritance of $20,000,000 from a dead benefactor. Uninterested in a life of wealth and longing only for time to play his tuba, Deeds is convinced to move to New York City, where a harsh newspaper report Babe Bennett (Jean Arthur) deceitfully snoops around in his life. Wanting to give away his fortunes to the needy, Deeds is deemed crazy and taken to court where his actions are ruled the sanest in the courtroom.
