James Woods won an Emmy Award for playing the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous in "My Name is Bill W." (1989). Woods plays a World War I veteran whose Wall Street success takes a disastrous downturn in the 1929 stock market crash, sending him into an alcoholic spiral. JoBeth Williams plays his wife and James Garner a fellow alcoholic, with whom Woods forms an organization to help chronic drinkers find strength and solidarity.
