Shot on location in Glasgow and Dover and based on a true story, this 2005 cinematic gem features Peter Mullan's brilliant performance as Frank Redmond, a man determined to swim the English Channel. The story begins with the despondent, middle-aged Mullanhit with a myriad of challenges, including the loss of his job after almost 55 years; an unemployment office in which, much to his embarrassment, his sister-in-law Angela, played by Jodhi May, works; plus panic attacks that cause him further humiliation.For respite, he plunges into the local pool and then into a full-fledged plan to swim the Channel with the encouragement of swim pals, Sean McGinley as Eddie, Ron Cook as Norman, and Billy Boyd as Danny.
