Undercover agent James Barlow (Randolph Scott) stages a phony train robbery in order to trick the outlaw Reno brothers into thinking he's a crook as part of an elaborate plan to infiltrate the gang. Once he's accepted into their inner circle, Barlow discovers that the reason the Reno boys have been able to avoid capture for so long is because they have several high-level local officials in their pocket.
