"The Robe" (1953) is a Bible epic concerning the story of a Roman tribune who comes into possession of the robe Christ wore during his crucifixion. Richard Burton plays the Roman charged with overseeing the death of Jesus Christ. The man comes into possession of Jesus' robes in a dice game and, though he is a non-believer himself, comes to feel that the garment is cursed. When his once loyal slave escapes with the robe instead of destroying it as ordered, Burton begins a journey that ultimately ends in his salvation.
