Receiving four Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Actress, "Summer and Smoke" (1961) is a unique story of unrequited love. Geraldine Page plays a spinster who lives in a small Mississippi town, and has lived for years with a deep love for ayoung and handsome doctor. Tragically, he has not returned her affections since childhood. Based on the Tennessee Williams play, this film is certainly one to make the audience look at the many lesser known facets of love and relationships.
