Fans of grind house and cult horror flicks have admired the over-the-top gore movies of auteur Herschell Gordon Lewis, with "The Wizard of Gore" (1970) being a stand-out in the director's canon. Lewis's twisted tale follows a shifty, diabolical magician with the power to hypnotize young women to be "assistants" in his gory, all-too-real stage show - and trouble starts to brew when a pair of curious admirers start snooping. Thoroughly depraved and full of scenery-chewing acting, this is one of Lewis' mostmemorable efforts.
